Russia, India Explore SCO, BRICS Roles in Easing Middle East Tensions
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov shared perspectives during a phone conversation with his Indian counterpart, Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, expressing support for a rapid return to stability in the region.
"They emphasized their support for the contribution of the SCO and BRICS to efforts to de-escalate the situation and create conditions for achieving a sustainable settlement based on a balance of the legitimate interests of all parties," the ministry noted.
Hostilities intensified across the Middle East on February 28 after the US and Israel conducted large-scale attacks on Iran, resulting in over 1,300 casualties, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Tehran launched drone and missile assaults targeting Israel and Gulf nations that house US military assets.
