Iran Confirms Ongoing Talks with U.S.

(MENAFN) Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed Sunday that diplomatic channels between Tehran and Washington remain active, with an exchange of messages continuing between the two sides.

Speaking in remarks broadcast by state television, Araghchi cautioned against premature assessments, stressing that no definitive conclusions should be drawn until negotiations yield "clear and tangible results."

"Everything being said now is speculation and should not be taken seriously," he added.

The diplomatic back-and-forth unfolds against a backdrop of sharply elevated tensions across the Middle East, which have surged since US and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes against Iran in February. Tehran responded forcefully — retaliating with strikes against Israel and US allies across the Gulf, while simultaneously shutting down the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world's most critical oil shipping lanes.

A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took hold on April 8, but subsequent rounds of negotiations in Islamabad collapsed without yielding a durable agreement. In the weeks since, both parties have continued trading proposals and counterproposals in a bid to revive direct dialogue and bring the conflict to a close.
